Sword Art Online (Review)

(Has Spoiler-Content)

In the year 2022, virtual reality has progressed by leaps and bounds, and a massive online role-playing game called Sword Art Online (SAO) is launched. With the aid of "NerveGear" technology, players can control their avatars within the game using nothing but their own thoughts. Kazuto Kirigaya, nicknamed "Kirito," is among the lucky few enthusiasts who get their hands on the first shipment of the game.
He logs in to find himself, with ten-thousand others, in the scenic and elaborate world of
Aincrad, one full of fantastic medieval weapons and gruesome monsters. However, in a cruel turn of events, the players soon realize they cannot log out; the game’s creator has trapped them in his new world until they complete all one hundred levels of the game. In order to escape Aincrad, Kirito will now have to interact and cooperate with his fellow players. Some are allies, while others are foes, like Asuna Yuuki, who commands the leading group attempting to escape from the ruthless game. To make matters worse, Sword Art Online is not all fun and games: if they die in Aincrad, they die in real life. Kirito must adapt to his new reality, fight for his survival, and hopefully break free from his virtual hell.

Sword Art Online, on my perspective, is one of the best anime that I have watched so far. The plot was divided into two arcs, first is in the Sword Art Online game and the other is in Alfheim online game. The first arc focused  on  Kirito developing his relationship with Asuna though he encountered many girls vying for his interest. There are  many exciting fights and a boss raid occurred so it's still balanced. It became more interesting when they encountered Yui and how she will help later onto the story. The way Kirito beat Kayaba might be kinda boring but it emphasizes that even though it's a game, feelings is still powerful.

The second arc is what most interest me though some say it became corny. Though it is really risky to change the game that the main characters play because the title itself is the game that they should play, which is Sword Art Online. Still they connected the first arc to the second, making the objective from how to beat SAO to how to save Asuna. They also manage to make it more interesting by introducing the cousin of Kirito, which is Suguha, and how she takes part on saving Asuna.

The animation is what makes this more interesting to watch and is  a plus on the action of the anime that  emphasizes sword skills. The opening songs of this anime is one of my favorites and has actually rendered me playing them on my piano.

Overall, this a great anime it is filled with different genres that sure to be loved -drama, action, romance and comedy.

Score 9/10
